AI automation for ecommerce operations
Practical AI systems integrated into the tools your business already uses. Connect them to Shopify and the systems behind the store to automate repetitive work, surface information faster, and cut manual steps.
Automate a workflow, not a trend
WB Digital is a technical ecommerce studio in British Columbia. AI work here is a type of ecommerce automation and integration. The model is the component. The thing you buy is a workflow that reads and writes the systems you already run.
That is a different project from a rules-only automation. If the step is “when an order is paid, send it to the warehouse,” start with automation or an integration. If the step is “read this ticket, this document, or this product and produce a draft a person can check,” this is the right page.
Use cases
- Customer support
- Classify and route Gorgias or other helpdesk tickets, and draft a reply a person can edit before it is sent.
- Internal knowledge
- An assistant over your SOPs, product notes, and policies. Answers come from that material. Customer-facing messages still go through a person.
- Shopify data
- Questions about orders, products, and inventory answered from Shopify, for the team, not as a public storefront widget by default.
- ERP, CRM, and PIM
- Pull the record that already lives in NetSuite or another system into the workflow, instead of asking someone to look it up.
- Catalog work
- Draft product descriptions, metadata, and attributes for review before anything is published.
- Reviews and reporting
- Summarize customer feedback, or explain a report from data you already collect.
- Documents
- Extract fields from invoices, packing lists, or forms into the system that should hold them.
- Inquiries
- Qualify a lead or customer question and write it into the CRM with the fields your team already uses.
Internal assistants that answer from your documents and system data use retrieval over that material. The technical name is RAG. The practical requirement is the same: the source has to be yours, and a person stays responsible for what reaches a customer or the live catalog.
Systems it can sit inside
- Shopify and Shopify Plus
- Klaviyo
- Gorgias and other helpdesks
- NetSuite and other ERPs
- CRM, PIM, WMS, OMS, and 3PL systems
- Google Workspace, Slack, and internal databases
- Custom applications, through their APIs
Shopify-specific API work is described on Shopify integrations. An agency that wants this built inside a project they already manage can start from agency partnerships.
How the work is scoped
A focused engagement takes one repetitive workflow and implements it. That starts at $2,000, in line with other integration work. A custom connection, where AI has to call several APIs and respect the way orders or products already move, is scoped from those systems. A larger project, with an internal assistant and more than one system, is scoped the same way. None of these are a promise that the workflow will run without a person.
We will not recommend removing review on a step where a mistake changes a customer, an order, or published product data. The useful version shows the draft, the source, and the failure, then lets someone decide.
Questions
What is ecommerce AI automation?
- It is a repetitive ecommerce workflow with AI connected to tools the business already uses. Examples include routing support tickets, drafting product metadata for review, or answering an internal question from Shopify and your own documents. The outcome is less manual work, not a new AI product.
Can you connect AI to Shopify?
- Yes. A useful connection reads orders, products, customers, or inventory the team already has in Shopify and uses that in a specific workflow. It is not a chatbot pasted onto the storefront unless that is the actual problem.
Can you connect AI to an ERP, CRM, or PIM?
- Yes, when that system has an API or a reliable export and the workflow is defined. NetSuite and other ERPs, CRMs, and PIMs are in scope when the assistant or automation needs those records. The integration has to exist before the model can be trusted with the data.
Will this replace our support or operations team?
- No. The practical use is to classify, draft, extract, or route work so people spend less time on the repetitive part. A person should still review anything that changes a customer, an order, a refund, or the live catalog.
Do you build fully autonomous systems?
- Not where a wrong action is expensive. Ticket drafts, catalog text, and extracted documents should have a review step. We will say so when a workflow should stop for a person instead of continuing on its own.
How much does a focused AI automation cost?
- A focused engagement on one repetitive workflow starts at $2,000, the same floor as other integration work. Custom connections and multi-system projects are scoped from the workflow and the systems involved. There is no fixed package for a larger build.
